July 2025 Leakfix Newsletter: Product Development, Undertile Waterproofing & New

ALL THINGS WATERPROOFING - JULY 2025

Hi All,

Please find our monthly roundup, based on our activity in July. We will also share a few tips and tricks, and talk about some interesting products.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING?

In July, the sun was up and we enjoyed some of the best ocean views while installing some cool waterproofing products. We also have been working hard on introducing new products into our Leakfix Shop.

LEAKFIX PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

We had a great time working on the development of our own products and already had some fantastic opportunities for troubleshooting and improvements. Firstly, with our biggest seller, Metal Profile No.1, we decided to package it in convenient 20lm kits with pre-drilled holes and an overlap cut for faster on-site installation.

Get your own bundle of ten 2-meter Metal Profiles No. 1, with 100 zinc alloy nail-in anchors, and 6.5mm SDS masonry right here.

We will pre-drill holes to your specifications and even cut corners for a snug fit.

UNDERTILE WATERPROOFING

I have to start by being brutally honest—I hate the idea of adhering permanent finishes to external waterproofing. This is mostly because it makes it impossible to maintain and very difficult to repair if anything goes wrong. However, it is still a quite common practice in Australia, and it is possible to achieve good results. It is just a lot more difficult and inherently riskier than using exposed, trafficable systems or systems covered with removable, maintainable finishes.

At this stage, most leading industry players have their own undertile sheet membrane system. The most popular one is probably Ardex 1000. Fatra markets its INNOPRO 807g System, while Soprema Australia has rolled out its Insono Weldi System. As part of our Leakfix Solve Day Rate Service, one of our senior technicians had the opportunity to install the Soprema Insono undertile membrane on a Gold Coast balcony deck for the first time, which was an exciting experience.

We found the Soprema system pleasant to work with and very easy to weld. We quite like welding modified bitumen with hot air, as even though it is somewhat slower than using a gas torch, it is an undeniably safer and more precise alternative.
