April 2025 Leakfix Newsletter: Tools, Tips & ELD Webinar Coming Soon!

ALL THINGS WATERPROOFING - APRIL 2025

Hi All,

Please find our monthly roundup, based on our activity in April. We will also share a few tips and tricks, and talk about some interesting products.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING?

I took some time off over Easter to be with my family. I still did a bit of work, but at a slower pace than usual. One highlight was building a work trolley with my daughter Margot—she’s only six but already loves drawing and building things. She’s surprisingly handy with tools, and I hope we’ll get to work on more projects together in the future.

Behind the scenes, Leakfix is getting ready to launch a few new products—mostly tools for now—as a way to test our online shop. Jessa, our Service and Operations Coordinator, has been doing a fantastic job helping the business grow and keeping our schedule full.

We’ll start with a limited release of small items and expect to sell out quickly. This will help us gauge demand and shape what comes next. Stay tuned!

We are also going back to hosting All Things Waterproofing webinar/podcast. We will be releasing one on ELD on May 28th - stay tuned. Join me and Julien for this presentation and discussion afterwards. In the meantime enjoy this short video I made about high voltage ELD. I also hope to do these webinars more often in the future.

It was one of the projects I had temporarily set aside, but I believe it's valuable and it is well worth sharing the knowledge. If you have any ideas for waterproofing related topics worth discussing, please get in touch by emailing us at hello@leakfix.com.au include All Things Waterproofing in the subject line.

PRODUCTS/SYSTEMS

Lately, I’ve been working on a
membrane installation for NCR,
using the Ardex WPM 114 — a
partially bonded modified bitumen system specified as a remedial solution. It was my first time using this membrane, and I was keen to see how it would perform. In the first video, I give a general overview of the system. In the second one, you’ll see the installation process in

action — including how straightforward it is to lay down the self-adhered base sheet. The system is composed of following products:

Vapour diffusion idea explained in few sentences:

Concrete (like most other materials) is never fully “dry.” Moisture trapped within the concrete tries to escape as water vapor, but if the surface above is not vapor-permeable, it blocks this escape, leading to a buildup of pressure beneath the impermeable layer. This often results in blisters forming under newly applied, fully bonded membranes.

The solution from Ardex allows water vapor to dissipate along the unbonded path preventing pressure buildup and blisters forming.

User experience:

The WPM 114 sheet is thick, robust, and surprisingly easy to install. The self-adhered SBS strips on the underside are very tacky, and the silicone release film is high quality—it doesn’t tear or stick when you're working with it, which is always a plus.

One thing to note: cutting through thicker mod-bit can still be a challenge—it’ll dull your blades quickly, so keep a few spares on hand.

I’ve also tested WPM 150 and 185, and they’re equally user-friendly. Overall, the system feels well thought-out and offers a practical solution for remedial works on concrete substrates.

If you're exploring options for your next project, this might be one worth considering.

Cracking the Injection Code Vol 1.

I met Lukasz Jan Jozwiak during my 2022 trip to Poland. I wanted to meet Lukasz because I was really impressed with his 3d printed models to explain concrete crack injection. We met up in Poznan, and had a great discussion about construction waterproofing and we have stayed in touch since.

After meeting Lukasz and speaking to him for 10 minutes I knew two things, one: He knows about injection, two - he is very passionate about explaining it.

When I heard Lukasz is working on the book I immediately got excited, and when he sent me a copy I dove right into it (however I did get distracted a few times lol). Cracking the Injection Code Vol 1, will be available on May 20th, looking forward to getting my copy when visiting Poland later this year.

Follow Lukasz to find out more about the publication.

Thank you for reading this.

Jakub.
